I am amazed at how much I have had to relearn ways to do ministry. I believe the way to do ministry has changed more in the last five years than in the last 50 years. There is an evolvement of how we must do ministry in order to reach this present generation. Church leaders now have to know companies like MySpace, Google, Facebook, and Apple. They are learning new verbs like 'googled' 'tivoed' and 'blogged.' Yesterday's ministry was excited when they were able to put their teachings on audio tape. Today, if your teachings are not podcasted, you are behind in the times.
I am now reading a great book about how to teach present day messages. (I am going to share notes later) It is throwing out the three points and a poem model and introducing a one point message. I just learned the three point message last year in ministry school! What? Now it is just one?
Ministry is evolving. Culture is evolving. In order for us to embrace the culture and effectively minister to it, we have to embrace new changes the are constantly taking place around us.
